Spaghetti Bolognese

A traditional spaghetti bolognese recipe, rich in tomato flavor with a hint of basil. This dish is perfect for a busy day and is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters.

Ingredients

  • 750g beef pork minced meat 
  • 1 white onion
  • 2 garlic cloves 
  • 150g of plum tomatoes
  • 400g (1 tin) of chopped tomatoes 
  • 50g of tomato ketchup 
  • a handful of fresh basil, chopped 
  • oil, for greasing
  • 250g of dried Spaghetti pasta 

Seasonings 

  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp of black pepper
  • 1 tsp of ground paprika

Method

Minced meat and chopped tomatoes in a bowl, plum tomatoes, garlic and onion on a chopping board with ketchup on a side.

Prepare your veggies.

Peel the onion and chop it into small pieces. Wash the tomatoes and cut them into halves. Crush garlic. Chop fresh basil, leaving some leaves for decorating.

Heat the oil in the large non-stick pan and fry the meat over high heat until browned, stir constantly (around 5 minutes).

Once the meat is brown, add onion and garlic, and cook further for a few minutes. Decrease the heat to medium-high. Season with salt, pepper and paprika. 

Mince meat with onion, garlic and added plum tomatoes.

Add plum tomatoes in and cook for about 5 minutes until softened. Add chopped basil.

Stir in the chopped tomatoes and ketchup. Bring to a boil. Cover with a lid and simmer for 25 minutes stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust seasonings.

In the meantime, boil water for pasta. 

Add spaghetti to the water and a pinch of salt, and cook following the instructions on the package.

When pasta is ready, drain and add to the sauce Mix all together and serve.

Decorate with fresh basil leaves.
