Italian Style Open-Faced Sandwich

Elevate your snacks with this Italian Style Open-Faced Sandwich: crispy garlic-butter baguettes topped with salami, tomatoes, and melted mozzarella. Baked until golden and finished with fresh basil and Parmesan, it is the ultimate quick, gourmet treat.

Ingredients

  • 3 sandwich baguettes
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • 100g Italian salami
  • 2 mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tsp of Dry Italian herbs

For Garlic Butter

  • 2-3 tbsp soft spread butter
  • 1 garlic clove
  • a pinch of salt
  • a pinch of black pepper

For Garnish

  • a few sprigs of fresh basil leaves
  • 20g of Parmesan

Method

Preheat the oven to between 180–190°C. Prepare a baking tray and line it with baking parchment.

Let’s start by making the garlic butter.

Mince the garlic and mix it with the butter. Season with salt and pepper, then set aside.

For the garnish:

Grate the Parmesan cheese and set aside.

Meanwhile, chop some fresh basil.

Let’s make our sandwiches.

Wash the tomatoes and slice them thinly.

Drain the mozzarella and cut it into thin slices.

Slice the baguettes lengthwise.

Spread a thin layer of garlic butter on each baguette.

Arrange alternating slices of tomato, salami, and mozzarella on top.

Sprinkle with Italian herbs.

Repeat the same process with the remaining baguettes and ingredients.

I managed to make six of them from these ingredients.

Place them onto the baking tray.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until the baguettes are crispy and the mozzarella has melted.

Once baked, sprinkle each baguette with a portion of grated Parmesan and the chopped basil.
